Mode (Gregorian)

What it is

A Gregorian mode is a tonal framework — final, range, and melodic habits — for Latin chant. There are eight traditional church modes. Authentic modes sit higher; plagal modes (Hypo-) sit lower around the same final.

What it is not

Not a modern major/minor key, and not a “mood playlist” label. Mode names describe structure the ear can learn, not vague vibes.
