Cova da Iria

In 1917 the Blessed Virgin appeared to Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta at Cova da Iria. The local bishop approved the apparitions; the Church presents Fátima for pilgrimage and conversion — prayer, penance, and the Rosary — ordered toward Christ, not spectacle.

For the pilgrim

Keep silence at the Capelinha. Pray the Rosary. If you cannot travel, unite with those who kneel in the square. For other approved Marian sanctuaries, see Lourdes and Our Lady of Guadalupe.
