Who he was
St. Michael is named in Scripture as the great prince who stands for the people of God. He is not a saint in the sense of a canonized human soul — he is an archangel, a pure spirit, whose name means "Who is like God?" The question is itself a rebuke to pride.
Why men seek his intercession
Men who work in dangerous professions, who fight addiction, who lead households under pressure — these are Michael's people. He is the patron of those who must stand between harm and the innocent. Seeking his intercession is not superstition. It is asking a warrior of heaven to fight beside you.
Traditional devotion
The Prayer to St. Michael, composed (or at least popularized) after Pope Leo XIII's vision, was once prayed after Low Mass throughout the Church. Many men have returned to it as a daily discipline: morning, or before sleep, or when temptation arrives with unusual force.

Symbols and iconography
Michael is almost always shown armed — sword raised, shield bearing a cross, the dragon crushed beneath his feet. The scales appear when he is depicted as weigh-master of souls. Wear or keep these images not as fashion, but as a reminder of the fight you are already in.
